Twee jaar na de gebeurtenissen van de Fourth Shinobi World War komt Naruto voor een nieuwe taak te staan, de maan staat namelijk op punt om in botsing te komen met de aarde! Al snel vindt Naruto de verantwoordelijke, Toneri Ōtsutsuki, maar die weet te ontsnappen. Als wraak ontvoert Toneri de jongere zus van Hinata Hyuga, Hanabi, en moeten Naruto en zijn vrienden alles op alles te zetten om Hanabi te redden.
