Naruto en zijn vrienden zijn verwikkeld in een gevecht met de Akatsuki maar het gevecht eindigt abrupt wanneer hun tegenstanders opeens de benen nemen. Iedereen wordt geprezen door hun ouders maar Naruto, die een wees is, wentelt zich in eenzaamheid. Wanneer hij met Sakura afspreekt worden ze opeens aangevallen door Tobi die de twee transporteert naar een alternatieve realiteit. Daar zijn de rollen omgedraaid en is Sakura de wees terwijl Naruto zijn ouders terug heeft.
